Hanover affordable housing project is underway
November 2017 - A redevelopment project that will create sorely needed affordable housing in Hanover got its official start on Oct. 23. Cardinal Sean O’Malley and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito joined a ceremonial groundbreaking Monday morning at a former dormitory at the Cardinal Cushing Centers.
Open house today at UMass Lowell campus at Harbor Place
November 2017 - Prospective students, their families and working professionals interested in attaining a UMass Lowell education at the new satellite campus in Haverhill are invited to an open house today, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harbor Place, 2 Merrimack St. The modern campus, in the heart of Haverhill’s downtown, allows UMass Lowell to deliver high-quality programs more conveniently than ever to individuals who live or work in the Greater Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire.

November 2017 - Like many smaller New England cities in the post-industrial era, Haverhill has faced a complex web of issues affecting its development and growth. The primary challenges have been growing the city’s local economy, an older building stock, and a desire for more activity in its downtown center. In addition, city officials imagined more public access to its most important resource, the Merrimack River. Other related issues include parking, physical barriers to access, and a desire for a greater feeling of safety and attractions downtown.
Cardinal, Mass. Housing Secretary dedicated Haverhill affordable housing
November 2017 - Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley, Secretary Jay Ash of the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development and Haverill Mayor James Fiorentini were joined by Lisa Alberghini, President of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs of the Archdiocese (POUA), and Ronald Trombley, Managing Director of the Greater Haverhill Foundation for the dedication of Harbor Place, a new mixed-income, mixed-use development in downtown Haverhill dedicated Oct. 30.
Key players in Harbor Place visit city
November 2017 - For Harbor Place to be built, it needed multiple partners and help from the state. All of that was evident this week when high-ranking state officials and others involved in the project took part in a dedication that included a visit by Cardinal Sean O'Malley.
